Rainbow Ski-field Opens
Rainbow uncovered
The Rainbow ski-field will be opening its gates to the public this weekend as part of the Festival of Nelson Lakes.
It's the first time the field has granted out-of-season public access in connection with an event.
Destination Nelson Lakes events manager Jennifer Sloots hopes the public will make the most of the opportunity. "There are tarns which we don't see in the winter months but you can see them now in the summer. There's a fantastic view of Lake Rotoiti from the top and it's a great place for alpine plant lovers."
The road to the field will be open to 2WD vehicles and access will be available from 10am to 4pm on both days.
Allow 40 minutes drive each way. An entrance fee of $10 per vehicle.
There will a limited ability to help people without transport or suitable vehicles to the field on Sunday afternoon, and anyone interested should register their interest in advance at festivalnelsonlakes.co.nz.
